Group Work Explained Through Memes
I cannot really speak or understand the ants' language but I am sure that the key to success for them is more working and less time-wasting. Lately I have been part of groups with great potential and the pace of work has fallen equally upon all of us. In most of the cases it doesn't happen like this. The work is not equally divided among the members of the group.
In every group there is at least a specialist of the field, the funny guy, a nerd that does all the work and the noob that never understands what is happening. Refer to the meme above and the latter is the guy with those glasses. Completely on the wrong direction. If while reading you were thinking in which role do you fit you better stop it. In most of the cases we all have been a noob in something or a specialist in another. These are just stereotypes because in the real life we are a mixture of all.
One of the key components of a progress is working in groups they say. But I see the attitude of the group towards an individual far more important than the whole group ties.
I am simulating a conversation that I had some times ago with a group in one of those students' groups that gather and spend time together. I was in a working group with 5 other members and we were supposed to deliver a 2-minutes-long speech in English. We were supposed to choose one person.
First Girl: We must choose someone that knows English.
Second Girl: His English must be good.
Me: I can do it. I have a Bachelor's Degree on English.
First Girl: He must speak fluently.
Me: Yes I can do it. There is no problem.
One Boy: Does any of you speak English well?
And then I decided to stay quiet and understood that sometimes the group work doesn't give you the possibilities to show your full potential in something. Btw our group got stuck in phase 1.
However the benefits of group working are endless and the ideas that are generated while speaking in chorus often are genuinely worthy.
DISCLAIMER: "ME" on the first meme doesn't refer to me but rather to all of us.
Hahaha I really enjoyed reading your post. I can easily notice that the post consists of your ideas and that adds originality to the post.I really enjoyed the example that you have provided at the end.I really agree with your sentence when you say that sometimes the responsibility is not shared among the members of the group. That's what we should learn to our students;group work in the sense of shared responsibility.Group work has its own benefits, but as you say group work does not always give you the possibility to show your full potential in something.

DeleteIt was such a funny post, full of funny memes thank you for making me laugh. Actually working in a group is not always effective it depends on the people with whom you are working,in general it is very helpful because you get to know some things better.
